The big buzz in our office today is swirling around Google’s work with HTML 5 and a centerpiece application smartly named Google Wave. Announced at their I/O conference keynote, Google Wave is email with a monster social-media makeover. Think true real-time online conversations through a combination of email and instant messaging, but that doesn’t do it justice. Every day we see new technology ideas with varying levels of “wow factor,” but only occasionally do we get something that is revolutionary. The significance of Google Wave is up there with the shift from DOS to Windows.

The secrets of successful Web copy can be found in the 80s flick Back to School, in which Rodney Dangerfield plays a lowbrow millionaire who tries to succeed in college the same way he succeeds in business. In the movie, he hires subject-matter experts to write his term papers, and he evaluates their work by weight, saying, “It feels like a ‘C.’ Bulk it up.” Although this wasn’t terribly funny even in 1986, it does illustrate the two secrets to good content: 1) always hire a professional, and 2) never judge content by volume unless you’re going for a laugh.

R2i recently empowered a dental organization to reach its membership goals through shrewd use of the Internet. The 20,000+member California Dental Association (CDA) offers clinical education, advocacy, and support services for dentists and their practices in California and 12 additional states. CDA came to R2i with several challenging goals: jump-starting its static growth, provide a resource of clinical, business and advocacy information for dental practices, developing a stronger personal relationship with members, and react more adeptly to changing dynamics in the industry.
